A Shift Electrician in a steel company is responsible for ensuring the continuous, safe, and efficient operation of electrical systems, machinery, and automation during their assigned shift. They are critical to minimizing production downtime by performing quick troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs on high-voltage and low-voltage equipment.Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Maintenance & Repair: Conduct preventive and breakdown maintenance on industrial electrical equipment, including HT/LT motors, transformers, switchgear, VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), and control circuits.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose malfunctions in motors, cranes, SMS (Steel Melting Shop) equipment, and induction furnaces during the shift to minimize downtime.
  • Safety Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols (e.g., LOTO - Lockout/Tagout), health and environmental regulations.
  • Shift Operation: Supervise the electrical aspects of the production process during day or night shifts.
  • Reporting: Maintain detailed shift logs, breakdown records, and material indents for spares.
  • Collaboration: Work with mechanical, production, and instrumentation teams to ensure seamless plant operations.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
  • Education: ITI in Electrician trade, Diploma.
  • Experience: Typically 4+ years of electrical maintenance experience, specifically within a steel plant, sponge iron plant, or heavy industry.
  • Technical Knowledge: Proficiency with PLC systems, SCADA, motor control centers, and electrical schematics.
  • Physical Ability: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, such as lifting heavy objects and climbing, in a fast-paced environment
