A Production Manager for a Steel Melting Shop (SMS) oversees daily steelmaking, focusing on achieving production targets (quality, quantity, cost) by managing teams, optimizing processes (charging, melting, casting), ensuring strict quality control, coordinating maintenance, and implementing process improvements for efficiency and cost reduction, often using EAF/converter routes for alloy steels, while managing budgets and safety.Key Responsibilities:
Production Planning & Execution: Develop schedules, manage raw materials, oversee melting, casting, and quality checks, meeting targets.
: Implement standards, inspect output, resolve issues, and guide metallurgy for consistent quality. : Reduce production costs, minimize tap-to-tap time, optimize additions, and improve resource utilization. : Manage, train, motivate, and evaluate supervisors and workers, ensuring high performance and discipline. : Coordinate with maintenance for preventive upkeep of furnaces, ladles, cranes, etc.. : Identify bottlenecks, implement innovations (e.g., new charge mixes), and manage change. : Enforce health and safety protocols on the shop floor. : Prepare reports on key metrics, achievements, and challenges for senior management.Essential Skills & Experience:
Deep knowledge of SMS operations (EAF, converter), metallurgy, and production procedures.
Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
Strategic planning, budgeting, and performance evaluation skills.
Experience with quality assurance, process optimization, and ERP software.
