
Thermal Cycle Design Engineer - Steam Turbine R&D

- Design and optimize innovative thermal cycles (e.g., advanced Rankine, supercritical CO2, reheat-regenerative cycles) for next-generation steam turbines.
- Conduct thermodynamic modeling and simulation using Commercial / Custom R&D tools.
- Collaborate with Turbomachinery Experts to translate cycle requirements into turbine performance targets.
- Develop cycle concepts for hybrid systems (e.g., thermal + solar, thermal + hydrogen, thermal + waste heat recovery, geothermal).
- Support experimental validation of cycle designs through test rigs or pilot-scale facilities.
- Evaluate thermodynamic and economic feasibility of new design ideas and cycle configurations.
- Engage as Thermal Lead in R&D programs with interface to mechanical design, materials, and controls teams and evaluate design trade-offs for cycle efficiency vs. cost, operability, component durability & emissions.
- Prepare technical research reports, publications, and patent documentation where applicable.
- Keep abreast of developments in clean energy technologies, carbon capture, and next-gen steam cycle applications.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Power Engineering, or Energy Systems. (Preferably from Government Engineering College)
- 3-8 years of experience in thermal cycle design, preferably in a power generation R&D environment.
- Proficient in thermodynamic simulation and cycle analysis tools - This shall be the key assessment point.
- Solid understanding of steam turbine principles, component behavior, and power plant systems.
- Knowledge of materials and operational challenges under advanced steam conditions.
- Strong analytical, documentation, and presentation skills.
- Experience with supercritical or ultra-supercritical steam cycles, organic Rankine cycles, or combined cycle R&D shall be advantage.
- Familiarity with energy transition technologies (e.g., hydrogen co-firing, CCS, thermal energy storage).
- Exposure to experimental research, data acquisition, and prototype evaluation.
- Track record of technical publications, patents, or conference presentations.
