The Senior Telecommunications Engineer is responsible for providing independent subject matter expertise and guidance on all matters affecting the Telecommunications group. Simultaneous involvement on multiple Pre-FEED, FEED, or EPC activities as Responsible Engineer may also be required.Responsibilities:
- Responsible for oversight and performance of the telecommunications scope of work. Support to projects and with clients to resolve technical questions and as required to coordinate work. Maintains the technical quality of work, monitors and maintains engineering scope, plans, schedules and budgets. Coordinates assigned engineering work and interfaces with other departments, disciplines, organizations, vendors, consultants, and clients, as well as outside permitting agencies.
- Conceptual, preliminary and detailed design of integrated voice & data communication systems which include, but are not limited to, fiber optic & copper-based structured cabling, IP-based data networks, security (CCTV and intrusion detection systems), access control, radio (UHF, HF, VHF, etc.), VSAT & microwave, PBX, public address & general alarm systems, and cyber security. There may also be interfaces with central control rooms, emergency response centers, SCADA and telemetry communications, and navigational aids.
- There will be involvement in the preparation of proposals, scope and budget development, specification development, issuing/reviewing bid packages, recommending bidder lists, preparing technical bid tabulations, reviews and comments on vendor engineering drawings and documents.
- The successful candidate must also be an effective administrator, possess key project planning, scheduling and controls skills.
- Bachelors or Masters in Electronics / Telecommunications Engineering. Minimum 12 years' experience in the telecommunications industry or working on EPC projects as a Telecommunications Engineer. Experience on Energy related projects is a plus.
- Ability to work under the pressure of changing priorities and deadlines in matrix responsibility organization.
- IT networking-specific or relevant industry certification a plus (CCNA, RCDD, etc.)
- Must have the ability to produce and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Must have the ability to analyze construction requirements including installation, purchasing, and contractual issues.
- Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills to effectively negotiate, problem-solve, and formulate solutions are required.
- Experience with the design of wired and wireless IP-based campus networks
- Working knowledge of IEEE 802 family of communications standards
- Expertise in the design of structured cabling systems based on ANSI/TIA/EIA 568 & 569 and IEC 11801 & 18010
- Working knowledge of microwave, satellite, fiber optic, and broadband transmission systems
- Experience in the design of security access control and monitoring systems such as CCTV, intrusion detection, and electronic key systems
- Working knowledge of UHF and VHF radio system design
- Experience with traditional PBX and IP Telephony/Voice Over IP (VoIP) system design
- A broad commercial knowledge of the contracting process and technical precedents in the industry is expected.
