- Design various kind of Copper wire and cables including conductor configuration, insulation thickness, shielding, and sheathing.
- Engineer cable constructions for House wire, Power cables, Instrumentation cables and Solar cables.
- Ensure compliance with IS, IEC, UL, BS, and IEEE standards in all design outputs.
- Evaluate and select conductor materials (e.g., Copper) based on mechanical strength, conductivity, and weight optimization.
- Choose insulation and sheathing compounds (e.g., PVC, XLPE, LSZH, HFFR) considering heat retardance, temperature bearing capacity, flame resistance, and environmental durability.
- Collaborate with procurement and quality teams to validate material specifications and vendor capabilities.
- Use AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and other CAD tools for cross-sectional design and layout.
- Perform thermal, electrical, and mechanical simulations using ETAP, CYMCAP, or equivalent tools.
- Analyze cable performance under stress conditions including tensile load, thermal cycling, and environmental exposure.
- Ensure all designs meet applicable national and international standards.
- Prepare and maintain design documentation, BOMs, datasheets, and compliance reports.
- Support audits and customer approvals with detailed technical documentation.
- Coordinate prototype testing for parameters such as heat resistance, elongation, UV stability, and flame retardance.
- Analyze test results and iterate designs to meet performance benchmarks.
- Support failure analysis and corrective design actions.
- Work with production, sales, and marketing teams to translate customer requirements into manufacturable designs.
- Provide technical support during customer interactions, tenders, and product approvals.
- B.E. / B. Tech in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- M. Tech in electrical engineering / power systems.
- 10-12 years in cable design and development within the wire and cables industry with a strong focus on LV, MV, HV, and specialty cable applications.
- Proven expertise in end-to-end cable design, including conductor configuration, insulation and sheathing selection, and compliance with IS, IEC, UL, BS, and IEEE standards.
- Hands-on experience in material engineering, evaluating conductor and insulation properties such as tensile strength, heat resistance, temperature tolerance, and weight optimization.
- Demonstrated ability to perform thermal, electrical, and mechanical simulations using tools like ETAP, CYMCAP, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks to validate design integrity and performance.
