This role is based out of our Bangalore center and will be a hybrid role. The Team The Global Merchant and Network Services Technology (GMNST) organization at American Express is responsible for modernizing the payments network to enable next-generation payments products. The team creates flexible merchant platforms to acquire, bill, pay, service and foster innovation, while enabling a payments ecosystem to connect and authenticate parties seamlessly and securely. Responsibilities American Express Global Card Network Platform authorizes and processes all the company's customer card transactions. The Card Network platform is the critical back bone for all American Express card transactions and is a near real time low latency system that is always available and highly resilient, processing transactions from around the world 24x7, 365 days a year. American Express is making strategic investments in new card network products and platforms to allow the company to meet its ambitious global growth agenda. Responsibilities include: Collaboration with key business partners to help drive the strategic vision, technical design, development, and delivery of strategic roadmaps and prioritized initiatives across a portfolio of software products / Technology Platforms to ensure they met the evolving needs of American Express and its customers. Driving key architectural decisions and design considerations to ensure system scalability, availability, and resiliency. Accountability for delivery, quality, and operational metrics of a portfolio, including system performance, platform availability, operational efficiency, risk management, information security, data management and cost efficiency. Leading a team of successful, forward-thinking, creative, multi-functional Engineering Leaders to enable delivery. Building a culture of innovation, and development across teams, delivering dynamic software solutions, and inspiring change. Build high performance engineering teams focused on new product capabilities on a modernized payment network architecture. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related field required; advanced degree preferred. 10+ years of experience in leading and delivering in matrixed organizations and interacting with teams across all lines of defense. 6+ years of demonstrated senior technical leadership experience leading highly sophisticated, ambitious, multi-functional technology software teams. Strong problem-solving skills: technical competence, opinionated on details, understand the internal working of platforms, and drive the vision for the platform. Experience with variety of non-functional and functional testing practices dealing with substantial scale of data, business logic, and low latency distributed engineering on modern cloud. Ability to lead multiple priorities and rapidly guide the organization through change moments. Possess strong influential and collaboration skills; ability to drive consensus and tangible outcomes, demonstrated by breaking down silos and fostering cross communication process. Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to impact all levels across functions, conduct intelligent business and technology conversations with senior stakeholders. Strong experience in building high performance and diverse engineering organizations. Ability to see the big picture with attention given to critical details. Ability to balance between technology determining the path forward and empowering products with speed and predictability. Technology landscape: Keen understanding of building high performance systems using Java/Golang/C++/Scala Experience in building microservice based large scale cloud native distributed systems. Experience in using NoSQL databases and distributed messaging systems such as Redis, Kafka, Couchbase, Cassandra in the context of low latency and high transaction volume systems. Experience in dev-ops or SRE roles is a plus. Experience in building applications/platforms on public cloud such as AWS or GCP is a plus. Domain experience in payments and regulatory compliance is a plus.
