- Installs and configures basic Unix (such as: Linux for Issuing; HP-UX for Acquiring) server equipment and core software with base or default settings and configuration changes in accordance with written guidelines (Build and Hardening guide) specific to Payment Card Industry (PCI) standards as directed. Performs basic user activation as directed. Assists with the provisioning of servers, services and end-user devices giving users access to data repositories or authorization to systems, network applications and databases.
- Performs daily system monitoring as directed, reviewing system and application logs, job status and reports findings to more experienced peers for evaluation of system resources. Assists with providing initial (level one) technical support for internal/external customer requests with basic services to include forgotten passwords, account set up and access. Escalate issues requiring more experience and in-depth knowledge. Provide basic support of diagnosing and correcting bottlenecks as directed.
- Assists with maintenance of basic Unix infrastructure environment, server equipment, firmware, and installs basic Operating System (OS) patches and upgrades on current and new Unix projects as directed. Assists with maintaining performance tuning as directed to report and identify performance trends and capacity planning. Assists with deploying the change control process for planning and implementing system changes. Maintains data center environmental and monitoring equipment as directed.
- Assists with disaster recovery and business continuity by conducting basic tasks (starting servers and bringing services on-line) in a Unix environment. Performs routine backup and recovery for data protection and integrity for basic Unix (Linux) servers; monitor Unix infrastructure as directed.
- May interact with the respective client service representatives and works with various levels of team members across business units within the company. Provides team members with basic supporting documentation. May attend status calls when requested and provide basic technical support.
- Bachelor's Degree
- Relevant Experience or Degree in: Computer or other similar technical concentration; relevant experience and / or training in lieu of education
- Typically No Related Experience Required
- Experience with Redhat Linux systems administration.
- Master's Degree
- Computer or other similar technical concentration; relevant experience and / or training in lieu of education
- Typically Minimum 2 Years Relevant Exp
- Experience with IBM AIX, Redhat Linux and Oracle Solaris 10 systems administration.
- Redhat Certified Engineer (RHCE); IBM AIX Certified Administrator; Solaris Certified Administrator
- Skills / Knowledge - Learns to use professional concepts. Applies company policies and procedures to resolve routine issues.
