
Windows & Network Patching Specialist

- Plan, schedule, and execute patch management activities for Windows servers, desktops, and network devices (switches, routers, firewalls, etc.).
- Ensure patches are tested, approved, and deployed according to organizational policies and industry best practices.
- Monitor and report patch compliance status, identifying and addressing systems that are out of compliance.
- Troubleshoot patching issues and perform remediation for failed or problematic deployments.
- Coordinate with application owners and system stakeholders to assess the impact of patches, manage exceptions, and schedule maintenance windows.
- Develop and maintain patch management documentation, including standard operating procedures, schedules, rollback plans, and change records.
- Perform vulnerability remediation activities in response to security scan findings and threat advisories.
- Use patch management and endpoint management tools (e.g., WSUS, SCCM/MECM, Intune, or other RMM tools) to automate deployments where possible.
- Collaborate with IT Security, Network Operations, and Infrastructure teams to ensure cohesive patch management across the environment.
- Communicate patching schedules, maintenance windows, and potential impacts clearly and proactively to stakeholders and end users.
- Stay current with vendor patches, advisories, and industry best practices for patch management.
- 4–7 years of relevant experience in Windows and network patch management in an enterprise or managed services environment.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft patch management tools such as ConnectWise RMM WSUS, SCCM/MECM, Intune, or similar RMM platforms.
- Experience patching network devices (Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto, or similar) and coordinating firmware upgrades.
- Solid understanding of Windows Server and desktop operating systems, Active Directory, and domain environments.
- Good working knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, firewalls) as it relates to patch deployment and security.
- Experience with vulnerability management tools (e.g., Nessus, Qualys) and interpreting scan results for remediation.
- Proven ability to plan and execute patch cycles with minimal disruption to business operations.
- Strong troubleshooting skills to resolve patch-related issues across diverse environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to coordinate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to document patching processes, update knowledge base articles, and maintain clear audit trails.
- Experience working within ITIL frameworks and following change management processes is an asset.
- Relevant certifications such as MCSA/MCSE, Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, CompTIA Network+, or similar.
- Experience with scripting languages (PowerShell, Python) for automating patching tasks.
- Familiarity with compliance standards such as CIS benchmarks, NIST, or ISO 27001.
- Previous experience working in an MSP or multi-tenant environment is a plus.
