The MEP Design Engineer Fire Fighting & Plumbing represents the Client organization in overseeing, reviewing and governing the design and execution of fire protection and plumbing systems for hospital and healthcare facilities.The role ensures strict compliance with statutory regulations, hospital-specific standards, infection control requirements, and operational reliability. The position safeguards technical integrity, lifecycle performance, water efficiency, and life safety systems critical to healthcare environments.Key Responsibilities1. Design Review & Technical GovernanceFire Fighting Systems:
  • Review and validate designs for sprinkler systems, hydrant and standpipe systems, fire alarm interfaces, and specialized suppression systems (clean agent systems, etc.).
  • Review hydraulic calculations, fire pump sizing, water storage requirements, and redundancy strategies.
Plumbing Systems:
  • Review domestic water supply systems, flushing systems, drainage and sewage systems, storm water systems, and medical support plumbing infrastructure.
  • Verify water demand calculations, tank capacities, pump sizing, pipe sizing, and zoning.
  • Ensure infection control considerations in plumbing design, especially in critical care areas.
  • Review Design Basis Reports (DBR), technical specifications, and Bills of Quantities (BoQ).
  • Ensure constructability, maintainability, and lifecycle efficiency of systems.
2. Compliance & Statutory OversightEnsure compliance with:
  • National Building Code (NBC)
  • NFPA (for fire systems)
  • Local Fire Authority regulations
  • Plumbing codes and local municipal requirements
  • Hospital safety and accreditation standards
Monitor progress of statutory approvals including Fire NOC and relevant plumbing clearances, ensuring timely submissions and compliance with imposed conditions.3. Documentation & Cost Governance
  • Review tender documentation, specifications, and quantity estimates for accuracy and completeness.
  • Evaluate shop drawings and technical submittals from contractors.
  • Ensure variations and non-tender items follow proper change management procedures.
  • Provide value engineering inputs while maintaining safety and performance standards.
4. Interdisciplinary Coordination
  • Coordinate with HVAC, Electrical, MGPS, Civil, and Architectural teams to ensure integrated and clash-free services layouts.
  • Review BIM/Revit models for coordinated routing of fire and plumbing services.
  • Interface with hospital operations teams to align plumbing systems with workflow and hygiene requirements.
5. Execution Oversight & Commissioning working along with Execution team
  • Conduct periodic site inspections to ensure installation aligns with approved designs and specifications.
  • Monitor quality of installation for pumps, tanks, piping networks, fixtures, fire pumps, and suppression systems.
  • Oversee testing and commissioning including hydro tests, pump trials, pressure tests, and fire system performance testing.
  • Ensure submission and verification of:
  • As-built drawings
  • Test certificates
  • O&M manuals
  • Warranty documentation
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor s degree in mechanical engineering (preferred) or Electrical Engineering with Experience in Plumbing
  • 8+ years of experience in Fire Fighting and Plumbing system design/review, preferably in hospital or healthcare infrastructure projects
Technical Expertise
  • Strong knowledge of fire protection and plumbing system design principles
  • Experience with hydraulic calculations and water system sizing
  • Familiarity with NBC, NFPA, plumbing codes, and statutory approval processes
  • Proficiency in reviewing CAD and BIM-based designs
