A heavy vehicle mechanic diagnoses, maintains, and repairs diesel and gasoline-powered heavy-duty trucks, construction equipment, and industrial machinery by inspecting components, performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, and replacing faulty parts. Responsibilities also include keeping detailed records of repairs, adhering to safety standards, using diagnostic tools, and staying updated on new technologies.Key Responsibilities:Inspection & Diagnosis:Conduct technical inspections and use diagnostic tools to identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in heavy vehicles and equipment.Maintenance & Repairs:Perform preventative maintenance, scheduled servicing, and detailed repairs on various components, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and electrical systems.Parts Replacement:Replace faulty or damaged components, ensuring proper function and adherence to safety guidelines.Record Keeping:Document all maintenance and repair work performed, including details of diagnoses, parts used, and services completed.Safety Compliance:Ensure all work and the equipment itself comply with relevant health, safety, and environmental standards.Technical Knowledge:Maintain and update knowledge on heavy machinery, diagnostic tools, repair techniques, and new technologies in the field.Collaboration:Work with operators, supervisors, and other team members to prioritize repairs, ensure proper equipment use, and complete tasks efficiently.Testing:Road-test or otherwise test repaired equipment and vehicles to confirm proper performance.Required Skills:
Strong diagnostic skills for mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
Proficiency in using specialized tools and diagnostic equipment.
Knowledge of diesel and gasoline engine repair and maintenance.
Physical strength, dexterity, and endurance for handling heavy parts and equipment.
Attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to work in various weather conditions and environments.
