Key Responsibilities:Sample Preparation and Analysis:Collecting and preparing biological specimens (blood, bone marrow, amniotic fluid, etc.) for analysis.Chromosome Analysis:Examining chromosomes under a microscope, identifying abnormalities, and performing techniques like karyotyping and FISH (fluorescence in situ hybridization).Molecular Testing:Utilizing molecular techniques like PCR and NGS to detect gene mutations and rearrangements.Data Interpretation and Reporting:Accurately interpreting test results and preparing comprehensive reports for physicians and other healthcare professionals.Quality Control and Maintenance:Ensuring the accuracy and reliability of test results by maintaining laboratory equipment, adhering to quality control procedures, and following safety protocols.Collaboration and Communication:Working closely with pathologists, geneticists, and other healthcare professionals to contribute to patient care and research.Essential Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field.
Certification as a Cytogenetic Technologist (e.g., by the American Society for Clinical Pathology) is often required.
