Role Profile This position is within the EV Powertrain eMachines team in JLR Product Engineering. The eMachine is at the heart of the high voltage system of our hybrid and fully electric vehicles. You will be responsible for leading a team of materials engineers. Primarily this role will be responsible for designing and delivering winding systems along with the electrical insulation of our eMachines. Key Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities include, o Developing insulation as a core product for in-house eMachines. o Developing Epoxy, Lamination Adhesives, Insulation Paper, Enamel on Copper or Aluminium Wires used in eMachines, eMachine Slot Design, Twist and Flare operation effect, Analyze Welding effects. o Conducting PDIV/PTCE/HTOE/ Non-Destructive Testing/ Mechanical Testing or similar test case design optimization and execution in house or at test houses. o Reviewing windings and insulation drawings across various electric machine programmes o Supporting the correct supplier choices, technological development and test equipment development. Secondary responsibilities include selection and specification of materials and processes involved in the design and manufacture of any automotive parts in following areas o Polymers / Elastomers, Electrical Steels, Permanent Magnets, Metals o Surface treatments incl. Chemical & Electro-Chemical Processing (e.g., anodizing, plating, shot peening, specialty coatings & treatments, lubrication, etching) o Composites o Coatings oLubricants and coolant mediums Benchmark competitive products and identify design alternatives. Review product requirements with design engineers and recommend applicable materials specifications to meet product design requirements and reliability goals. Role Description Identify new material opportunities that will lower product cost, increase product performance, or increase product sustainability. Analyze of the performance of various materials used in Electric Vehicles by laboratory methods (ISO). Works with materials and component suppliers to develop, evaluate and approve materials to applicable materials specifications. Skills, experience, and qualifications Essential: Bachelor's Degree (BE/BTech) in Electrical Engineering with masters or PhD in High Voltage Engineering or Materials Engineering/ Material Science Minimum 14 years of experience in materials design/selection and/or process engineering role is preferred. In-depth knowledge of Electric Machines components, materials: high voltage insulations, enamels/papers, insulating adhesives, copper and aluminum wires, steels, permanent magnets, polymers and lubricants In-depth knowledge of and experience with Automotive Materials Processes, Process Selection, Specification and Applications would be advantageous. Experience material testings , PDIV, high pot, PTCE/HTOE Experience in working with windings and insulation material suppliers across the globe to deliver components to meet quality, time, cost, weight, timing and functional targets Experience would be beneficial in any of the following: writing specifications, drawing review & approval, product failure investigations, technical reports writing, documentation change management, developing process parameters, troubleshooting, or auditing manufacturing processes (incl. special processes), process control and compliance. Experience in the automotive industry or in a similar industry preferred. Familiar with Material specification standards IEEE C57.100-2011, IEC/TS 62332, IEC 60851, DIN, ASTM, and SAE standards. Ability to work individually and in a cross functional team Excellent team development, communication and presentation skills.
