HMI uses Nexus 7000 series switches, ASR routers, ASA firewall, V-Sphere for virtualization, F5 Load Balancers, HP and Cisco UCS blade chassis. Wireless design and implementation experience. Cisco WLC based, 2602 APs global network, 250 APs. Support guest access at all sites. Someone that comes with hands-on experience from a large enterprise background (5000+ Employees) will be preferred.DescriptionNetwork Engineer will be responsible for the design and implementation of the network used by Herman Miller, Inc. Key design goals include reliability, serviceability, and scalability. Provides technical support for the network switches, routers, cable plant, and RF equipment infrastructure devices used to enable communications within the corporation. Recognized for network expertise and sought as a resource for resolution of unique complex networking problems.RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Install and maintain network devices.
  • Monitor the network environment and resolve network problems required to share on-call support, i.e., 24x7 phone support.
  • Develop and maintain network documentation and educate team members.
  • Assist in network planning, engineering, architecture, and the development of standards.
  • Evaluate moderately complex existing network systems and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop detailed network specifications and configure network devices.
  • Assist in the evaluation of requests for new or modified network connectivity.
  • Document network, procedures and processes completely and accurately.
  • Interface with vendors to identify and purchase hardware/software and evaluate new products as assigned.
  • Recommend alternative solutions to reduce costs or improve service and reliability.
  • Provide network expertise and knowledge to other members of the team in resolving complex network problems.
  • Plan network projects involving multiple disciplines, impacting multiple business units.
  • Evaluate user requests and identify requirements.
  • Establish priorities.
  • Perform additional requirements as operations may require in support of achieving business objectives.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree in Information technology preferred or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of experience is essential.
  • Cisco CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) Certification.
  • Ten+ years of network experience.
  • Very strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Transaction Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) network experience.
  • Experience with Cisco, Juniper networking and software.
  • Working experience with wireless (802.11x) communications.
  • Experience with network management software and network tuning tools, i.e., Wireshark, Observer, Orion and utilities.
  • Strong teamwork skills, e.g., ability to work with others during stressful problem-solving activities, open to other's ideas.
  • Demonstrates systemic thinking; excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage own time and to work on several tasks simultaneously.
  • Customer focused; ability to be proactive, e.g., provide advance notice of potential problems or issues.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills; resolve problems quickly and efficiently.
  • Able to work flexible hours and in shifts; weekend and Sunday testing and coverage will be required as necessary; share 24x7 on-call support with other team members on rotation.
  • Able to travel (10% up to 20% may be required).
  • Ability to effectively use office automation, communication, software, and tools currently used in the Herman Miller office environment.
  • Ability to perform all essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.
Work environment:Great place to work. Pretty low-key and supportive place to work, but candidate must be able to work under duress if the network goes down.Technical Environment:
  • Core Nexus 7009, 5548, with fex distribution to the middle of row
  • Datacenter servers are 85% Virtualized V-Sphere, HP and Cisco UCS blade chassis plus IBM, and SUN/Os.
  • Main OS is Windows server, HP/UX, AIX and Solaris.
  • Storage is fiber channel and IP based, 10G and 1G connectivity. EMC and NetApp (managed by storage team)
  • Main firewalls Cisco ASA, load balancers F5 Big-IP, IPS tipping point, WAN acceleration Riverbed, Routing Nexus, 3945 and ASR.
  • Edge Cisco 4507, 3750X, 2960
  • Campus Ring Private fiber 10G, Cisco 6509E, with same edge devices
  • Wireless Cisco WLC based, 2602 APs global network, 250 APs, we support guest access at all sites.
  • Datacenters are located in Holland, UK, and Hong Kong.
  • Disaster recovery node hosted at IBM, New York.
  • WAN remotes (total 60 locations including W Michigan sites)
  • Cisco 2901/29xx routing, 3750, 3750X, 2960 switching, router based firewall, Cisco 2602 APs, split tunnel VPN and MPLS.
  • NS Infoblox in US, Windows DC based at remote sites.
  • Network monitoring - Orion in W Mich, Orion in UK, Netflow, IPSLA, Monitoring, Configuration management
  • Phone systems - No Cisco VoIP. Use Avaya, Nortel & Lync messaging.
  • Use Service Now for tickets, change management and ITSM processes.
  • Clients are 98% Windows 7, MAC, RF Intermec.
  • Remote access is Juniper SSLVPN, mail is OS365 cloud hosted.
  • Major applications for ERP are BaaN and Syteline (International)

Candidate must be organized, have excellent communication skills, be able to set priorities and have thorough documentation skills. HMI places high importance on honesty and integrity. Collaborative environment, but must be able to work under duress and make decisions.
