The SPM/Fixture Designer at Jabil, Inc. is responsible for the design, development, and implementation of special purpose machinery (SPM) and fixtures used in manufacturing processes, ensuring efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.Job Responsibilities
- Design and develop SPM and fixtures from concept through to production, utilizing CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo).
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to understand requirements, specifications, and production challenges.
- Conduct design reviews, analyze feasibility, and provide innovative solutions for complex manufacturing problems.
- Generate detailed 2D and 3D drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and assembly instructions.
- Perform stress analysis, tolerance stack-up analysis, and material selection to ensure design integrity and performance.
- Support the procurement and fabrication of SPM and fixture components, working with internal and external suppliers.
- Participate in the assembly, testing, and validation of designed equipment, troubleshooting and implementing design modifications as needed.
- Document design processes, changes, and lessons learned for continuous improvement.
- Adhere to industry standards, safety regulations, and company quality procedures.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 1-4 years of experience in SPM, jig, and fixture design within a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software SolidWorks is essential.
- Strong understanding of mechanical principles, kinematics, dynamics, and material science.
- Experience with various manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, assembly, and automation.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and a strong attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
