
Insurance Accounting Manager

- Lead a team of Senior Accountants to analyze the accuracy and reasonableness of monthly financial results and KPIs, particularly related to insurance metrics, through variance analysis and discrepancy investigation at the general ledger account level and financial statement line item level across legal entities, regions, and business units.
- Supervise the Global Business Service (“GBS”, third-party service provider) team, provide training, perform detailed review to ensure work quality, and continuously improve the GBS team's operational processes related to insurance accounting.
- Identify process improvement and automation opportunities within the insurance accounting function, align with relevant parties, and drive change. Take ownership and create effective and efficient end-to-end processes for insurance financial operations.
- Evaluate, coach, and develop a team of Senior Accountants, building and improving their skills and capabilities related to insurance accounting principles and practices to achieve team and accounting organization goals.
- Manage, lead, or assist with various special accounting projects, including the design and implementation of key financial systems, internal controls, M&A integrations, process efficiency, global close efficiency, audit readiness, and management reporting, all with a lens on insurance accounting complexities.
- Ensure a strong and effective internal control environment specific to insurance accounting processes and support internal and external audit requirements.
- 7+ years of operational accounting experience in a public accounting firm's audit and assurance service and/or an Accounting Manager role in a multinational corporation
- 5+ years of experience as a people manager, leading at least 2 or more senior accountants.
- Solid knowledge and understanding of U.S. GAAP and public company audit requirements. Solid knowledge of accounting policies/procedures and financial statements specific to the insurance sector.
- Excellent technical, analytical, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- The ability to thrive in a changing environment and be able to work with senior management to influence decision-making, work independently, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to independently resolve complex problems where analysis requires the in-depth evaluation of numerous factors, particularly in complex insurance transactions.
- Excellent time and self-management skills, ability to prioritize and multitask to meet deadlines is required.
- Experience implementing SOX controls and maintaining an effective SOX control environment.
- Experience in supervising and reviewing work of others, including outsourced service providers.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills (V-Lookups, Pivot Tables, etc.).
- CPA certification preferred.
- Experience with Oracle or other large-scale ERP is preferred.
- Knowledge of US GAAP accounting principles for insurance companies with specific expertise in insurance accounting pronouncements (e.g., ASC 944)
