Senior Consultant - Major Accident and Disaster Risk Assessment

Job Description:WSP India is looking Senior/Principal Consultant to support the UK region delivery of the assessment of major accidents and disasters for both national and international Environmental Impact Assessments, as required by the EU EIA Directive, across a wide range of sectors including: industrial; energy (e.g. transmission lines, natural gas, solar, wind, hydrogen); residential; highways; and rail. The projects range from smaller localised developments to nationally significant infrastructure projects.The role involves undertaking a review of both natural and manmade major event types (e.g. flooding, landslides, extreme weather, fires, transport accidents, engineering accidents/failures, etc) to detemine if there is a source, pathway and receptor and therefore establish which major event types require further assessment for the proposed development. The assessment is a qualitiative process and involves identifying the potential scenario which could occur, determiming the reasonable worst consequence of this scenario and establishing if it meets the criteria of a major accident and/or disaster (MA&D). If the scenario does meet the criteria of a MA&D then the mitigation measures are reviewed to determine whether the risk of the MA&D occuring is managed to be as low as reasonably practicable or whether further mitigation measures are required.Skills/experience that would be desirable for this role include:
  • Industrial knowledge/experience.
  • Process safety experience.
  • Qualitative and quantitative risk assessment.
  • Experience in the identification of major accident scenarios for emergency planning purposes.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience.
  • Internationally recognised H&S qualifications such as NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational H&S would be preferable.
  • Technical membership (or higher membership grade) of IOSH would be preferable.
