The position will identify, cultivate, and solicit individual and corporate prospects, especially HNIs and non-Rotary entities with a potential for outright gifts and commitments of US$ 25,000 or more, with an emphasis on gifts and commitments of US$50,000 or more. The position will help process related recognitions and provide ongoing stewardship to the donors. The Major Gifts Officer (MGO) position supports the volunteer structure including Rotary Senior Leaders, Senior Manager, The Rotary Foundation, Manager, Fund Development & Donor Services, and the Fund Development team based at Rotary International.This will be a home-based position at Bangalore, Karnataka, India.You Will Have
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) is essential. Post Graduate in Social Work or fundraising or diploma in Management is desired.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in development or a related field (i.e., sales/marketing, public relations, non-profit management); prior annual giving/major gift experience, managing volunteers and familiarity with prospect management systems strongly preferred. Experience in living or studying in a multi-cultural environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with personal computers and database applications required, including advanced experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
  • Familiar with and reasonable ability to handle digital media/communication.
  • Strong inter-personal skills and a professional demeanor, strong commitment to customer service, and proven ability in oral and written communications in English, including public speaking and promotional writing.
  • Ability to interact with high-level donors and volunteers while advancing individual relationships resulting in philanthropic contributions and commitments.
  • Works independently and collaboratively with colleagues in a team environment while being comfortable with qualitative and quantitative evaluation.

You Will Be Responsible For
  • Develops and maintains a portfolio of key major and planned giving prospects with the capacity to make gifts or commitments of US$25,000 or more by maintaining frequent communication with prospects directly and through volunteers as part of a contact management system. Prepares and coordinates the presentation of major gift proposals to prospective donors.
  • Develops information base of prospective non-Rotarians with capacity to make major gifts or commitments of $25,000 or more in the future.
  • Averages 50 contacts (face-to-face, telephone, major gift proposals, etc.) per month with major gift donors and prospects.
  • Gathers, records and properly stores information about major gift prospects utilizing Raiser's Edge as part of the contact management system.
  • Accurately enters and regularly updates gift solicitations following departmental protocol.
  • Prepares and submits quarterly status reports to Philanthropy team in Head Quarter, Senior Manager and Manager, Fund Development & Donor Services, summarizing fundraising activities undertaken in the prior quarter.
  • Assists in the design and implementation of a fund development plan for Zones 7 to enhance Foundation's major and planned giving efforts. This plan includes specific strategies for donor acquisition, retention and upgrading opportunities with special emphasis on Named Endowments, Bequest Society commitments and major gifts including corporate gifts & CSR funds.
  • Support regular meetings of Zone leaders and Trustees.
  • Assists Manager, Fund Development & Donor Services in the preparation of items pertaining to fund development activities, including an assessment of needs for donor cultivation/solicitation resources, participation in Rotary events, support materials, etc.
  • Travels locally to Clubs and District events to understand and support the Foundation activities in the region, and also to interact with volunteers to identify the nature of support needed by them. Supports Regional Leaders, especially Endowment/Major Gifts Advisor, EMGAs in responding to regional issues pertaining to Foundation.
  • Monitors the progress achieved in fund development activities by Zones and districts in the assigned region. Verifies timely delivery of the various progress reports. Follows up and urges completion when one or more parties fail to report as expected. Recommends encouragement, follow up, or corrective action as necessary.
  • Supports zone and District teams for donor cultivation/stewardship events as needed and appropriate.
  • Assists with the development and distribution of region-specific donor appeals as appropriate.
  • Assists in organizing fundraising TRF events and other donor recognition events in coordination with District and zone leaders under guidance of Manager, Fund development & Donor services.
  • Provides timely and reliable information, including accurate statistical information, adequate audio-visuals and appropriate literature, to parties participating in fund development efforts. Ensures appropriate literature, public relations and publication material is requisitioned in advance, stored properly, and dispatched on time.
  • Focuses support on key senior Rotary leadership, including Endowment/Major Gift Advisors, Areas of Focus Major Gift Committee members, as well as district volunteers located within the assigned region.
  • Supports and trains District volunteer committees on fund development related matters at district events and other Rotary meetings as assigned.
  • Incorporates into all assigned duties a strong, thorough, and ongoing knowledge of the organization, including technical, programmatic, and procedural functions within The Rotary Foundation as well as Rotary International.
  • Maintains effective contact with the philanthropic community at large and prepares periodic reports on trends and developments with the potential to affect fund development activities, including important legal and governmental policies.
  • Assists management in ensuring that all fund development activities are kept within the ethical and legal parameters and general directives of the local law.
  • Other services that support overall fund development activities and implementation of fundraising strategies in the region.
  • Optimally utilize software viz., BI Reports and NetForum.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
