Collaboration is a key factor in our success and we all have plenty to learn and to teach.Job SummaryAs a member of the Advanced Engineering team, this mechanical engineering role is aimed at assuring product integrity and accelerating the development of New Products through application of analytical, including simulation, skills. In addition, support for New Technology Investigation is included in this role.Responsibilities
  • Provide timely and accurate Analytical support for New Product Development Teams to aid in design decisions.
  • Utilize computational tools to simulate product stresses and strains during operation and foreseeable misuse, including product drops. Identify highly stressed areas and design features, and work with Product Designers and Engineers to improve designs, using analysis to show expected improvements.
  • Perform life predictions utilizing FEA, historical endurance test results, and fatigue theory; improve predictive capability with regard to the Precision Fastening (PF) and Vehicle Service and Industrial (VSI) product lines. Utilize and improve existing predictive tools.
  • Perform Experimental Design and Analysis to improve Technology Understanding Level (TUL) for life prediction of highly stressed PF and VSI power trains.
  • Support all Power Tool and Lifting product lines, collaborating with team members regarding life predictions of high speed mechanisms; participate in development of associated analytical and design tools.
  • Work with design engineers and designers to capture product development methodologies and to develop and share associated design tools.
  • Support New Technology Investigation/Introduction to maintain technology leadership in identified product areas.
  • Explain analytical approaches to Product Design staff to support creative problem solving. Provide occasional technical training short courses to educate and to improve employee engagement.
Basic Qualifications
  • Education - BE and M.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience - 10 or more years experience performing stress and dynamic analysis of mechanical components and assemblies using ANSYS FEA tools.
  • Collaborative mindset, track record of working well with design engineers to iterate on and improve designs.
  • Resilient and able to adapt and respond quickly.
  • Zeal for new information, knowledge, and experiences; regularly seeking and capitalizing on learning opportunities; quickly assimilating and applying new information.
Travel & Work Arrangements/RequirementsSite-based with some hybrid work possible based on the current policies at the IR Bangalore facility.Key CompetenciesEssential Skills:
  • Strong mechanical engineering analytical skills.
  • Experience performing implicit and explicit analysis, including use of LS-DYNA.
  • Good communication skills; ability to clearly explain complex analyses.
Desired Skills:
  • Experience performing steady-state and transient heat transfer analysis.
  • Basic CAD skills, in particular use of Creo.
