  • Design electrical distribution systems for buildings and facilities
  • Calculate electrical loads and determine appropriate service sizes
  • Select appropriate electrical equipment including switchgear, transformers, and panels
  • Design lighting systems with appropriate illumination levels and energy efficiency
  • Develop power, lighting, emergency power, and special systems layouts
  • Create single-line diagrams, panel schedules, and riser diagrams
Technical Documentation
  • Prepare detailed electrical drawings and specifications
  • Develop electrical load calculations and voltage drop analyses
  • Create short circuit studies and coordination studies
  • Document emergency and standby power system requirements
  • Prepare operation and maintenance manuals for electrical systems
  • Generate as-built documentation reflecting final installation conditions
Code Compliance & Standards
  • Ensure designs meet National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements
  • Comply with local building codes and regulations
  • Apply appropriate industry standards (IEEE, NFPA, NEMA, UL)
  • Design systems in accordance with energy codes (ASHRAE 90.1, IECC)
  • Implement life safety requirements for emergency lighting and power
  • Address ADA requirements for electrical installations
Coordination & Integration
  • Coordinate electrical systems with architectural and structural elements
  • Interface with mechanical engineers for HVAC power requirements
  • Work with plumbing engineers on water heating and pump systems
  • Coordinate with fire protection systems for alarm and monitoring
  • Integrate building automation systems with electrical controls
  • Resolve spatial conflicts through BIM coordination
Construction Support
  • Review contractor submittals and shop drawings
  • Conduct site visits to verify installation compliance with design
  • Respond to RFIs and provide technical clarifications
  • Perform inspections at critical installation milestones
  • Witness testing and commissioning of electrical systems
  • Troubleshoot field issues during construction
Specialized Systems Design
  • Design power conditioning and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems
  • Develop lightning protection and grounding systems
  • Create telecommunications and data infrastructure designs
  • Plan security systems including access control and CCTV
  • Design distributed energy resources (solar PV, generators)
  • Implement smart building technologies and IoT infrastructure
Project Management
  • Estimate project costs and develop electrical budgets
  • Create work schedules and track design progress
  • Coordinate with clients to understand electrical requirements
  • Manage client expectations and communicate technical information
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to achieve project goals
  • Ensure quality control of electrical design deliverables
