- Certification Requirements Analysis: Conduct due diligence on certification requirements for TCCA90 chlorine tablets and guide the team on applicable standards for drinking water applications.
- National and International Certification Validation: Identify and validate relevant national and international certifications (e.g., BIS, NSF, pharma-grade standards) required for local manufacturers, assessing any gaps in existing certifications. If gaps exist, the Consultant will be responsible for drafting government-ready guidelines to share with appropriate departments.
- Supplier Certification Verification: Verify the authenticity of certifications submitted by suppliers and ensure compliance with regulatory standards (global and national).
- Quality Assurance Enhancement: Assess and help improve our Quality assurance process for the chlorine tablets.
- Laboratory Report Validation: Vet and validate laboratory reports from external labs on water and chlorine tablet samples to confirm product safety and efficacy.
- Recommendations on BIS Standards: Provide actionable recommendations to address challenges in establishing BIS standards for TCCA90 tablets in India and ensure alignment with national and global safety standards.
- Policy and Guideline Development: Consultant must be solutions-oriented and will be responsible for identifying and implementing how to best meet program needs through chemical certifications and standards. This will include personally drafting guidelines, policy documents, and materials.
- Provide technical support to state and district governments: in implementing in-line chlorination and water treatment programs.
- Assist in capacity building of government officials: on water quality monitoring, chlorination systems, and O&M practices.
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations and training materials: for government stakeholders.
- Document best practices and case studies: from program implementation for dissemination to government partners.\
- Contribute to technical reports, toolkits, and publications documenting India Safe Water program learnings.
- Contribute to conferences, peer-reviewed publications and technical papers based on program implementation data.
- Maintain awareness of emerging water treatment technologies and global best practices in chlorination.
- This position will serve as flex capacity as the India Safe Water program undergoes rapid scale and new requirements may arise to include strategic planning, program transition, learning management, procurement, contracting, monitoring, learning, & evaluation, and others.
- PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, or a related technical discipline
- 8+ years of progressive technical experience with demonstrated leadership capabilities
- Proven track record of producing high-quality technical documentation and policy materials
- Strong understanding of water treatment processes, including chlorination and other purification technologies
- Experience with water quality testing, analysis, and interpretation of results
- Familiarity with Indian and international drinking water quality standards (IS 10500, WHO guidelines)
- Proficiency in technical writing and documentation
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, including ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively
- Self-motivated with ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to travel to field sites as required (up to 30%)
- Experience working with government agencies, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), or other regulatory bodies
- Prior involvement in technical standards development or revision
- Publication record in peer-reviewed journals or technical reports
- Familiarity with certification processes for water treatment equipment and chemicals
- Experience in capacity building and training delivery
- Prior experience working with public health or sanitation programmes in India
- Experience working with community-based water supply systems
- Research experience during graduate studies or professional career
- Professional certifications related to water quality or environmental management
- Fluency in Hindi or Telugu
