
Advanced Lead Engineer – Firmware Development

- You will be responsible for developing low-level firmware for embedded Linux systems, guiding projects from concept to implementation. You will define software architectures, customize Linux distributions using Yocto, and collaborate across hardware and software teams to ensure optimal performance on embedded platforms, including System on Modules (SOMs).
- Design and develop low-level firmware for new embedded products.
- Define architecture for embedded Linux systems.
- Customise and maintain Linux distributions with Yocto Project.
- Integrate and validate drivers and hardware components.
- Optimise performance and resource usage.
- Develop and integrate firmware for platforms based on System on Modules (SOMs).
- Customise embedded Linux systems to run efficiently on SOM hardware platforms.
- Resolve complex hardware and software issues at firmware level.
- Use tools such as JTAG and GDB for debugging.
- Work autonomously through the full software development lifecycle.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across hardware, software, and product domains in locations such as France, Spain, and India.
- Lead technical decision-making during project initiation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Telecommunications, or a related field.
- Advanced level of English proficiency. French and/or Spanish is desirable.
- Strong proficiency in embedded Linux system development.
- Advanced experience with Yocto Project (layers, recipes, BSPs).
- Expertise in C/C++ programming.
- Experience working with System on Modules (SOMs), including hardware integration and bootloader/kernel customisation.
- Familiarity with microcontroller and processor architectures (ARM, MIPS, etc.).
- Proficiency in Linux kernel and user space.
- Experience using debugging tools like JTAG and GDB.
- Knowledge of communication protocols: I2C, SPI, UART, USB, Ethernet.
- Knowledge of Cyber Security process & tools and standards (IEEE 1686, IEC 62443-4-2).
- Experience working in the Power Energy industry, working on products such as RMU, RTU, Protection Relay, Gateways, IoT, IED Controllers
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in embedded firmware development.
- Proven track record of leading embedded development projects from scratch.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
- Excellent communication and project coordination skills.
- Problem-solving, analytical, and organisational skills.
- Ability to lead and make technical decisions when initiating a new project.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
