The Chief Editor of the Cureus Journal of AI-Augmented Research is a visionary leader, community builder, and hands-on editor, entrusted to launch and steer an innovative journal at the heart of AI-driven science. The Chief Editor will architect and oversee a publication that sets new standards for open, ethical, and efficient research powered by human expertise and artificial intelligence.Role ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership and VisionShape and articulate a compelling editorial vision aligned with Cureus’ mission of inclusion, affordability, and scientific integrityWork closely with an expert advisory board to shape and evolve editorial guidelines for AI-assisted research and publishing workflows.Define and champion the journal’s unique identity as an AI-first platform spanning all disciplinesAct as the journal’s ambassador, promoting a culture of responsible AI adoption in research through outreach, thought leadership, and global collaborationsFoster an inclusive, interdisciplinary research community spanning from AI practitioners to domain scientists via events, partnerships, and community initiativesEditorial Operations and Manuscript HandlingOversee end-to-end manuscript management, including AI-assisted initial screening, reviewer assignments, and peer review coordination.Make decisive, timely judgments on manuscript acceptance, revision, or rejection, upholding high standards of rigor, transparency, and ethicsCollaborate with Cureus’ editorial office, and Springer Nature content innovation department to leverage advanced AI tools and ensure a rapid, fair, and author-centric publishing processContinuously evaluate and refine editorial workflows, integrating new AI capabilities while maintaining the crucial oversight of human editorsInnovation and Content DevelopmentChampion and pilot innovative publishing models: AI-assisted submissions, interactive content, data publishing, and transparent peer reviewExperiment with content formats and policies reflecting the evolving landscape of AI-enabled authorship and collaborative scienceGuide the responsible integration of AI in processes such as ethical compliance checks, reviewer matching, and bias mitigationQualificationsPhD in a relevant scientific, technological or interdisciplinary fieldExtensive, hands-on experience in AI-enabled research and/or digital publishing innovation (in any discipline)Editorial, leadership, or community-building experience; a track record as an AI early adopter or thought leader is highly desirableExceptionally strong communication, organizational, and mentoring skillsCommitment to upholding the highest standards of scientific integrity, inclusion, and methodological rigorWhy Join Us?Shape the global conversation on ethical, impactful, AI-augmented researchPioneer a journal that models the future of research communication, which is fast, transparent and human-centeredCollaborate with a mission-driven open access publishing team and a worldwide network of forward-thinking researchersEligibilityIn accordance with our internal career movement guidance, 12 months in current role is a requirement before applying to a new role#LI-SK1At Springer Nature, we value the diversity of our teams and work to build an inclusive culture, where people are treated fairly and can bring their differences to work and thrive.
