End-to-End Environment Orchestration: Manage complex test regions (CICS regions, DB2 subsystems) and coordinate with Systems Programmers to ensure environment stability.
Risk-Based Testing (RBT): Lead impact analysis for massive code drops, identifying critical paths in the Job Entry Subsystem (JES) to prioritize testing where failures would be most catastrophic.
Defect Governance: Lead defect triage meetings between development, business analysts, and stakeholders. Provide technical evidence (e.g., dump analysis, trace logs) to expedite fixes.2. Expert Technical Validation
The candidate must demonstrate "Power User" status in the z/OS environment.
Complex Batch Validation: Expert in JCL override procedures, cataloging/uncataloging datasets, and using GDGs (Generation Data Groups) for regression testing.
DB2 & Data Integrity: Beyond simple SELECT statements; they must understand DB2 referential integrity, perform data loads/unloads, and validate complex stored procedures.
Utilities Mastery: Advanced use of File-Aid, IBM File Manager, or BMC Mainview to manipulate VSAM files and verify data at the byte level (Hexadecimal/EBCDIC).3. Modernization & Automation (The "Bridge" Skills)
As Mainframe teams adopt DevOps, the Senior Tester must lead the transition.
Automated Regression: Experience using tools like IBM Rational Test Workbench or writing REXX/CLIST scripts to automate repetitive validation tasks.
API & Integration Testing: Validating the integration between the Mainframe core and distributed front-ends (Java/Mobile) via MQ Series or RESTful APIs.
