The Principal Engineer, System Requirements is a key project technical focal point to product stakeholders both internal and external to Harman. This position requires a broad background in automotive infotainment and digital cockpit systems, as well as deep knowledge in one or more relevant product domains. This position leads system requirements development for assigned projects/products/domains from a technical expertise base. May manage indirect reports, providing performance management and mentorship. Able to provide technical leadership, evaluate tradeoffs, resolve issues, and achieve technical solutions that meet stakeholder needs. Must be able to communicate effectively and document the resulting product requirements. Serves as the technical interface for assigned projects/products/domains.Your TeamThis position may be assigned indirect reports and may also manage contract employees. You are expected to lead assigned team members through matrix organization.What You Will Do
  • Develops system functional/performance specifications based on customer and other stakeholders' specifications to clearly and concisely capture what is required of the product.
  • Drive and own SRS requirements and traceability through design, development, and testing through an end product-driven approach (Test Driven Approach).
  • Documents and maintains product requirement exceptions.
  • Maintains an organized repository of all stakeholder requirements specifications, including a master document list.
  • Identifies risk level associated with new feature development based on requirements status.
  • Aware of all relevant federal standards, industry standards, and internal standards and ensures that resulting designs will satisfy these requirements.
  • Responsible for developing and executing the requirements management and development process for assigned projects/products, ensuring compliance to targeted ASPICE level.
  • Captures issues that arise from requirements development and downstream activities, triages issues based on severity and urgency, and drives resolution of open issues.
  • Accountable for requirements metrics targets.
  • Customer Program Management (CPM) focal point for requirements engineering technical topics for assigned projects/products.
  • Responsible for change control management for assigned projects/products.
  • Direct requirements engineers to keep RFQ and project development on schedule.
  • Ensure reporting of missing analysis information, completeness of traceability/linking and RE specific statistics regularly to stakeholders.
  • Generate Requirements Analysis Report (RAR) to CPM for new spec package deliveries.
What You Need
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent related field.
  • Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal.
  • Proven and effective analytical, problem-solving, judgment, initiative, and execution skills.
  • Experience with industry-standard tools and software for system and requirements engineering, such as DOORS, DNG, SysML, or UML.
  • In-depth knowledge of fundamental engineering and requirements management principles.
  • Ability to provide detailed reviews on complex/technical specifications.
  • 8+ years of experience in systems & requirements engineering.
  • Experience with product/project development to meet industry standards such as ASPICE.
  • Be results driven and have a proactive, goal-oriented approach to decision making.
  • Ability to adapt to changing demands and conditions.
  • Clear and strategic thinker; proven experience in translating strategies into actionable plans.
What is Nice to Have
  • Masters or PhD degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent related field.
  • 12+ plus years of experience in systems & requirements engineering.
  • Practical experience in related areas such as system design, hardware/software design, software development, and real-time embedded applications.
  • Knowledge and technical understanding of automotive processes, components, and design techniques.
  • Management experience with direct and/or indirect reports.
  • Broad technical background with general knowledge of Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, cellular technology, smartphones, navigation, GPS, tuner, satellite radio, video, voice recognition, hands-free operation, vehicle bus, advanced safety, cloud-based services, and automotive requirements.
  • Deep knowledge in one or more relevant product domain areas.
  • In-depth ASPICE knowledge and experience with practical application.
  • Project management experience.
  • Significant systems/software experience with complex development cycles that span multiple release versions.
  • Capable of handling multiples projects/initiatives simultaneously and executing them to completion
