Columbia Sportswear’s Digital Technology (CDT) group enables an IT infrastructure and applications across four global brands, a global supply chain, and 500+ geographically dispersed stores. These teams support in-store, mobile, and data platforms to enhance customer interface and service in an ever-evolving industry. The Software Engineer designs, develops, tests, deploys, monitors, and supports software solutions. This role ensures quality, security, privacy, reliability, availability, maintainability, performance, compatibility and integrations of solutions throughout. This person advances the team's technical foundation to deliver modern, simple, and secure solutions, and lift engineering skills within the squad. The role adopts DevOps practices to improve efficiency and confidence of software delivery. This role partners with Architects, Product Managers, and Agile Leaders to implement and refine technical architectural designs in alignment with enterprise standards, and to deliver software in an agile way with continuous improvement in mind.Scope of delivery and sphere of influence is for a single squad.Level of complexity of autonomous work: Low/MediumExperience level: IntermediateHOW YOU’LL MAKE A DIFFERENCEDevelopment: Design & Implementation: Implement and maintain tags, rules, data elements, and extensions in Adobe Launch (Adobe Experience Platform Tags). Build and enforce a structured, well-documented data layer across Columbia’s global digital storefronts. Develop JavaScript-based custom code within tag rules to capture behavioral events, page data, and user context.Quality & Performance: Follow established tagging standards and governance frameworks. QA tag implementations across browsers, devices, and environments using browser developer tools and tag validation tools (e.g., Adobe Experience Platform Debugger, ObservePoint, or similar). Identify and resolve data quality issues that affect downstream analytics and marketing platform accuracy.Observability: Monitor the health and accuracy of tag firing, data layer population, and event delivery. Assist in diagnosing discrepancies between expected and actual data in analytics and marketing platforms.Technical Advancement: Contribute to improving tagging processes, documentation, and automation. Support migration or upgrade efforts within the Adobe Launch environment.Innovation: Assist with proof-of-concept work for new tracking approaches, consent frameworks, or analytics instrumentation patterns.Tag Governance & Compliance: Implement and maintain tag governance standards — ensuring only approved tags fire, consent signals are respected (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA), and data collection is auditable. Work with privacy and legal teams to validate that tagging practices comply with applicable regulations across all markets.Analytics Instrumentation: Instrument web analytics tracking using Adobe Analytics — including page views, custom events, eVars, props, and conversion metrics — in coordination with the analytics team. Ensure tagging aligns with the analytics measurement plan and supports reporting accuracy.Marketing Platform Data Feeds: Ensure behavioral and event data captured via tags is correctly delivered to downstream marketing platforms — including messaging, personalization, and paid media systems — through appropriate integrations and data forwarding rules.Product Backlog & Roadmap Input: Contribute to and help refine the squad’s backlog. Break down tagging and analytics work into well-scoped, deliverable stories. Help inform effort estimates and surface dependencies between tag changes and broader site releases.Agile Delivery: Participate in daily stand-up, refinement, planning, review/demo, and retrospectives. Coordinate tag implementation work with site release cycles and campaign timelines.Cross-Time zone Collaboration: Work effectively with PDX-based analytics, marketing, and engineering counterparts. Communicate clearly on tag status, data quality issues, and release dependencies across time zones.YOU AREDetail-oriented and data-quality focused — you understand that inaccurate or missing data has real downstream consequences for marketing and analytics decisions.Genuinely curious — you ask questions about why data is structured the way it is, how it flows through systems, and what could break. You treat every tag implementation as an opportunity to learn something about the business. An exceptional communicator — able to explain tagging logic, data layer structures, and compliance implications clearly to both technical engineers and non-technical marketing stakeholders. You write clear, async-friendly documentation that remote teammates can act on independently.Globally minded, with experience or strong interest in working within a geographically distributed team. You understand the discipline and intentionality required to stay aligned with teammates in different time zones and bring that mindset to every interaction.Compliance-aware, understanding the importance of getting consent and data governance right — not as a constraint but as a core quality standard.A collaborative team player, comfortable working across engineering, analytics, and marketing teams within a globally distributed model.YOU HAVEBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience.2–4 years of professional experience in tag management, digital analytics engineering, or a closely related web development role.Hands-on experience with Adobe Launch (Adobe Experience Platform Tags) — building and managing rules, data elements, extensions, and publishing workflows.Working knowledge of Adobe Analytics — event tracking, variable mapping, report suite configuration, and validation.Solid proficiency in JavaScript — particularly custom code within tag rules, event listeners, and data layer manipulation.Understanding of web data layer architecture — how structured data objects are defined, populated by site code, and consumed by tag management systems.Familiarity with browser developer tools and tag debugging/QA methodologies.Basic understanding of consumer privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA) and how consent management platforms (e.g., OneTrust) integrate with tag management.Experience with Git-based version control workflows.Experience working on a globally distributed or cross-timezone team, or in an offshore delivery model. A demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with remote stakeholders is strongly preferred.Strong written and verbal English communication skills — including the ability to write async-friendly status updates, tagging documentation, and QA reports that remote teammates can act on without a live call.NICE TO HAVE:Exposure to paid media pixels (Meta, Google Ads, TikTok, Snapchat) and their implementation via tag managers.Familiarity with server-side tagging patterns.Knowledge of data forwarding to marketing platforms (Braze, Zeta, or similar) via Adobe Launch server-side extensions or APIs.Adobe Analytics certification or Adobe Experience Platform credentialing.#LI-SA1#HybridThis job description is not meant to be an all-inclusive list of duties and responsibilities, but constitutes a general definition of the position's scope and function in the company.
