Hybrid Working Structured hybrid role: At Barclays, we offer a hybrid working experience that blends the positives of working alongside colleagues at our onsite locations, together with working from home. We have a structured approach where colleagues work at an onsite location on fixed, 'anchor', days of the week, for a minimum of two days a week or more, as set by the business area (or nearest equivalent if working part-time hours). Introduction: Working within a development team providing design, coding, and unit testing services for Data Platform team within the Data and Analytics cluster. This group is responsible for building out a data platform that is at the heart of a multi-year, multi-million Pounds technology transformation programme. The group will use multiple technologies including Java, Data Warehouse and leading Cloud technologies and tools to create a data platform that consolidates data from multiple sources, transform the data models and then produce various data marts which will be hosted in a Cloud infrastructure (AWS). This vacancy is specifically for a key technical member of the team who will be able to lead and contribute to building this data platform. More specifically, the Java service tier to the data platform and our Java utilities. What will you be doing . Leading the design process of building and evolving the data domains on the data platform. . Perform technical lead duties within Data Platform Integration domain scrum . Ensuring all resiliency, observability, supportability, security and operational readiness requirements are met. . Acting as a Data domain SME and point of contact and escalation for the development team. . Producing and maintaining application code, unit testing code. . Produce and review development plans. . Manage development issues, escalating when appropriate. . Attend project meetings representing Development team. . Undertake Peer reviews. . Act as reference point for technical queries within Development area. . Promote technical best practice. . Coaching, mentoring and Quality assurance of development team. . A smaller percentage of the role will be providing 3rd line support for applications supported by the development team. What we're looking for: o Experience working with Agile software development teams with onsite, offshore and remote team members o BigData / Data Warehouse experience o RDS, DynamoDB, Alation o SQLserver - ability to write advanced TSQL stored procedures, sql skills, schema design, query tuning etc o Very Strong and hands on in Spark preferably using Scala or Java o Deploy and monitor scalable infrastructure on Amazon web services (AWS) & configuration management using Chef. o Build the AWS environment through automated scripts using Cloudformation. o JPA/Hibernate Database integration experience Education Qualification: o Graduated preferably with a technology based degree Skills that will help you in the role: o Ability to be forward-thinking and be able to analyse and anticipate project, technology and team solutions to ensure successful project delivery o Ability to take ownership of a technical solution, build new things without needing close supervision, learn and apply new tools and technologies, solve problems without needing constant help, make consistent daily progress on design and build. o Strong knowledge of AWS development o Strong knowledge of AWS services ( Lambda, Glue, ECS, Step Functions, IAM roles, Lakeformation, EventBridge, SNS, SQS, EC2,Security Groups, Cloudformation, VPC, Cloud Watch, AWS Auto Scaling, Cloud Trail, Service Catalog) o Experience in building efficient data pipelines using AWS services. o Excellent hands-on technology skills on working with real-time applications including kafka technologies o Demonstrable working knowledge on different file formats XML, JSON, Iceberg, Parquet, HUDI o Proven ability to design and develop enterprise level software solutions using tools and techniques such as Source Control, Build Tools (e.g. Maven), TDD, Jenkins etc. The role holder must be a strong computer scientist with a good appreciation of data structures and other fundamentals.
