Join us and become a Heartist®.Job DescriptionWe are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Commis I - Asian Cuisine to join at Grand Mercure Mysore,India. As an entry-level kitchen professional, you will work alongside experienced chefs to prepare high-quality Asian dishes while maintaining the highest standards of food safety and kitchen efficiency. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop your culinary skills in a fast-paced, collaborative kitchen environment.
- Prepare and cut vegetables, proteins, and other ingredients according to standardized recipes and chef specifications
- Assist in the preparation of Asian dishes, including stir-fries, curries, noodle dishes, and other regional specialties
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation, adhering to all food safety and hygiene protocols
- Follow recipes and cooking instructions precisely while maintaining consistent quality and portion control
- Support senior kitchen staff with food preparation tasks and kitchen operations
- Assist in receiving and storing ingredients, ensuring proper inventory management
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including woks, steamers, and other specialized Asian cooking tools
- Communicate effectively with team members to ensure smooth kitchen workflow and timely food service
- Perform routine cleaning and sanitation duties throughout the kitchen
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative kitchen culture
- Proficiency in basic knife skills and food preparation techniques
- Knowledge of Asian cuisine ingredients, flavors, and cooking methods
- Understanding of food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds regularly
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills
- Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively with kitchen staff
- Preferred: Previous experience in a professional kitchen or culinary setting
- Preferred: Familiarity with specific Asian cuisines (Chinese, Thai, Indian, Japanese, Vietnamese, or other regional specialties)
- Preferred: Food handling or food safety certification
- Preferred: Basic proficiency in English communication
