ASSISTANT ELECTRICIAN

- Assist with the construction of experimental devices
- Perform maintenance, repairs and new installations on research and industrial equipment with direct supervision
- Follows all lab safety rules and regulations and uses protective equipment to prevent electrical shock (hot work is not allowed)
- Interprets wiring diagrams, engineer’s sketches and specifications to determine design factors
- Install and de-install various types of wiring, cable, conduit, switches, fixtures and circuits safely
- Performs cable pulls through conduit and tray
- Installs lighting and power circuits, fiber optic cables (no terminations), power control equipment, motors and generators (typical voltages 480v 3ph and below)
- Work directly under lead electrician and at times independently
- Experience in electrical application for high and low voltage electric system
- Ability to work well under the supervision of a Electrician following electrical code manuals
- Two-year degree (college/technical/vocational) or equivalent experience in electronics, telecommunications and/or computer technology is required
- FCC General Radiotelephone Operators License or equivalent license for radio repair is preferred, but not required for initial employment
- Technical knowledge and skills that would enable you to pass the Alabama Power Craft Knowledge and Skills test is required before employment
- Understanding of the various topologies, telecommunications, wireless, data and voice networks and how they interface with each other
