A Technician in a Power Plant's C&I (Control and Instrumentation) department is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing the plant's control and instrumentation systems. This includes a wide range of tasks, from calibrating and servicing field instruments to diagnosing issues with and systems. They ensure the reliable operation of equipment that monitors and controls the power generation process.Key Responsibilities:Maintenance and Calibration:Performing routine maintenance, calibration, and repair of various C&I field instruments, including transmitters, valves, and analyzers.Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:Identifying and resolving issues within the control systems, including those related to DCS, PLC, and other monitoring and control devices.Safety and Compliance:Ensuring that all work is performed in accordance with safety regulations and procedures, maintaining high standards of safety and housekeeping in the work area.Documentation:Maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, calibration schedules, and equipment performance.Collaboration:Working effectively with other technicians, engineers, and relevant personnel to ensure the smooth operation of the power plant.System Understanding:Developing a thorough understanding of the power plant's control systems, including their architecture, components, and operating principles.Specific Equipment Knowledge:Gaining expertise in various C&I equipment, such as vibration monitoring systems, turbovisory instruments, and continuous emission monitoring systems.Typical Tasks:
Loop checking and diagnostics of control systems.
Calibration and service of Analyzers in the plant's Sample Water Analysis System (SWAS) and Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS).
Maintenance and service of calibration devices in the C&I lab.
Working with both portable and installed instruments.
Interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and diagrams.
Qualifications:
Typically requires an associate's degree or relevant certification in electrical, electronic, or instrumentation engineering.
Some positions may require a bachelor's degree or higher.
Experience in a power plant or industrial setting is often preferred.
Knowledge of electrical and electronic principles, as well as power generation systems.
Familiarity with safety standards and regulations related to electrical work.
