Laser Welding Engineer

• Responsible for the design, development, commissioning, and ramping of high-speed automated laser welding equipment, while working in a cross-functional team to test, validate, and roll out process and product design changes.
• Drive laser cell reviews of process design, fixture design, simulations, cycle time plan, line layout, equipment maintenance strategy, and optimizing towards high-speed limits.
• Responsible for Managing the Laser welding mechanical systems for a variety of assembly applications including Manual weld shop, robots, conveyor, and transfer systems.
• Provide technical support to the Design team and work closely with R&D on laser welding technologies.
• Responsible for daily maintenance and Calibration of Laser source and power Pocket monitor
• Responsible for weld implementation for future model launches and process improvement.
• Responsible for continuous process optimization in a current production environment
• Responsible for driving and understanding customer specifications, both corporate and plant for use in all aspects of mechanical designs.
• Responsible for supporting production personnel in root cause analysis and problem resolution of production throughput, quality, and cost challenges.
• Provide direction on the application of welds during process development to optimize line throughput while still maintaining customer weld specifications.
• Develop Laser welding techniques, procedures, and application of welding equipment to problems involving the fabrication of metals, utilizing knowledge of production specifications, properties and characteristics of metals and metal alloys, and engineering principles.
• Establishes welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, and pre and post-heating requirements which involve use of complex alloys, unusual fabrication methods, welding of critical joints, and complex post heating requirements.
• Lead new welding development research.
• Troubleshoot welding issues both internally and with suppliers (processes and equipment)
• Develop and specify welding standards and best practices.
• Improve welding equipment OEE.
• Responsible for Maintaining weld fixtures and calibration, Shim Logs.
• Responsible for Engineering Changes.
• Perform experimental welding to evaluate new equipment, techniques, and materials.
• Develop, monitor, and report production measurables and productivity incentive plans.
• Support and troubleshoot 8D / Problem resolution methods.
• Responsible for IATF16949 documentation requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
