We have a power generation capacity of 15,250 MW comprising thermal power plants in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand, and a 40 MW solar power project in Gujarat.Job Purpose: The role is responsible for overseeing the entire coal handling process, ensuring operational excellence and the seamless flow of coal supply to the power plant. The Section Head CHP operations must ensure safety, environmental sustainability, and a culture of high performance within the CHP team, while effectively managing stakeholder relationships and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.Responsibilities:Section Head Coal Handling Plant OperationsOperational Excellence:Monitor contractor performance.Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all CHP activities.Establish a continuous improvement program to identify and implement operational enhancements.Implement a robust fuel management system to oversee diesel consumption and storage.Oversee the corrosion survey of seating and CHP conveyor structures to prevent infrastructure degradation.Budget and Inventory Management:Manage manpower planning for housekeepers and operators to optimize staffing levels.Monitor inventory management, including the Auto base workshop and spares management.Develop a comprehensive budget for the CHP operations and manage expenditures within approved limits.Coordination and Communication:Conduct daily coordination meetings with contractors and maintenance teams to align on CHP operations.Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure pre-monsoon preparedness and functional equipment by ensuring functional pumps and no water accumulation.Coordinate with the port authorities for efficient coal pile management and with the BD team for coal blending and issue resolution.Foster strong relationships with external stakeholders, including suppliers and regulatory bodies, to ensure compliance and timely procurement.Engage with the Head of Integrated Plant Fuel Management (IPFM) to develop and approve Management of Change (MoC).Performance Monitoring and Continuous Improvement:Regularly monitor equipment to reduce Auxiliary Power Consumption (APC) and ensure no generation loss due to bunker filling.Monitor and ensure the maintenance and operations of the Auto Coal Sampler Unit (ACSU).Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) for breakdowns.Implement Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure and enhance belt utilization and cost efficiency and ensure regular calibration.Oversee the optimization of the CHP area to improve throughput and reduce operational bottlenecks.Ensure the implementation of condition-based monitoring for timely maintenance and reduced equipment downtime.Business Sustainability:Ensure adherence with the AWMS, IMS, ABEM, CHETNA, and DISHA implementations.Ensure adherence to safety protocols, monitor operations, logic, isolations, tagging system etc. including the Lock Out Tag Out (LOTTO) system, to ensure the safety of all equipment and personnel.Conduct regular safety drills and emergency response training to prepare for potential coal ignition incidents.Lead initiatives for dust suppression systems to maintain a dust-free environment in the CHP area.Digitisation and Automation:Lead and execute comprehensive digitization strategies to optimise operational efficiency.Innovate and implement automation solutions to support overall organisational goals / strategy.Ensure implementation of advanced digital monitoring systems for real-time tracking of CHP operations.Review and implement process and system improvements, adopting newer technologies and innovative ideas.People and Team Engagement:Participate in the recruitment process to attract and retain skilled personnel for the CHP team.Drive and enhance employee engagement and retention across the team to sustain a positive workplace culture.Lead, inspire and mentor the team to foster a high-performance culture and ensure cross skilling through job rotation, technical and behavioural trainings.Ensure proper succession planning in the team.Key Stakeholders - Internal:Operations & MaintenanceBusiness DevelopmentKey Stakeholders - External:SuppliersQualifications:Educational Qualification:BE/B.tech in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related field is required.Work Experience (Range of years):12+ years of experience in coal handling operations, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or management role.Preferred Industry:Experience in the power generation or energy sector, specifically with expertise in coal handling and operations management.
