A Rolling Mill Quality Control Engineer ensures steel products meet technical, dimensional, and surface standards through in-process inspection, raw material testing, and process parameter monitoring. They troubleshoot production issues, enforce safety, and drive improvements, crucial for managing mills' QC operations, as described in this .Key Responsibilities
  • Process Monitoring: Monitor critical parameters (furnace temperature, rolling speeds) during production to ensure consistency.
  • Quality Inspections: Inspect raw materials and finished products for surface defects, dimensional accuracy (using calipers, gauges), and mechanical properties.
  • Documentation: Maintain, review, and analyze logbooks and production data for compliance and traceability.
  • Corrective Action: Identify defects (cracks, deformation), analyze root causes, and implement corrective/preventive actions.
  • Calibration & Compliance: Verify calibration of thickness measuring gauges and ensure compliance with ISO standards.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with maintenance, production, and marketing departments for production plans and quality assurance.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Education: Degree or Diploma in Metallurgy or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: 5-10 years of experience, typically within steel rolling mills or similar manufacturing settings.
  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of rolling processes (4HI, 6HI), steel properties, and NDT methods.
  • Tools: Familiarity with precision measuring equipment (micrometers, gauges).
