Role Description:We are looking for a Backend Software Engineer to join our team and help us to improve the platform that supports one of the best experimentation tools in the world. You will work side by side with other engineers to develop and maintain web services that enable all the products that are part of the experimentation tool at Booking.com. You will collaborate with colleagues in Amsterdam to achieve results the right way. This will include engineering managers, product managers, engineers and data scientists.Key Responsibilities and DutiesDevelop and maintain APIs and capabilities for web services that power experimentation productsSolve technical problems to improve our development process, increase our efficiency and unlock new business opportunities.Take initiative to improve existing solutions, challenge decisions, propose augmented alternatives and address technical debt.Contribute to technical discussion around software architecture and help the team to make decisions that are agile, incremental and beneficial for the long termRefactor and simplify code by introducing design patterns when necessary and guide more junior members of the team in this topicSystematically identify patterns and underlying issues in complex situations, and to find solutions by applying logical and analytical thinkingThe job requirementsMinimum 5 years of hands-on experience in software engineering with strong knowledge of at least one language like Perl, Java, NodeJS (JavaScript) or PythonBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer or Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field or 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the specialty as equivalentProven experience with MySQL and PostgreSQL or similar relational databasesProven experience with System Design and Software ArchitectureStrong communication and team collaboration skillsExcellent problem-solving skills and attention to detailPractical experience with GraphQL and APIs development is a plusExperience working with teams located in different timezones is a plusExperience with experimentation, statistics and A/B testing is a plus
