Language and Learning Foundation (LLF) Position: Literacy Specialist: Learning Resource Centre (LRC) Location: Varanasi Organisation summary: Language and Learning Foundation (LLF) aims to improve the Foundational learning outcomes of all children in government primary schools. LLF has collaborated with multiple state governments to scale its FLN programmes focusing on Teacher Training, Material Development, Teacher Coaching and Mentoring. LLF also drives systemic change by enhancing the system s capacity at the district, state and national levels. Multiple studies, including a Development Impact Bond-based study in Haryana, have proven LLF s significant impact on student learning outcomes. Project Summary: Based on LLF s extensive FLN experience in Uttar Pradesh, it is observed that there is lack of understanding of the FLN framework (the systems & processes of the FLN program implementation under UP s NIPUN Bharat Mission) and the limited or no capacities among various government stakeholders to to perform their roles and responsibilities to attain the State s FLN mission results. Therefore, LLF came up with a solution to develop Learning Resource Centres (LRC), which will be a first of its kind State of the Art continuous professional development Hub dedicated to design and execute need based customised capacity building programs for the various stakeholders (govt and non-govt) in the state. It will support them in enhancing their capacities and performance to attain the larger FLN objectives for statewide application in UP. The major objectives of LRC will be Designing and implementing capacity building programs for various LLF staff and Govt. stakeholders (State/DistrictBlock levels), Engage with relevant stakeholders to ensure alignment with project objectives and conduct regular consultations to assess the effectiveness of the LRC programs, and develop mechanisms to monitor and evaluate the impact and effectiveness of LRC activities and provide recommendations for future enhancements and sustainability. Position Summary: The Literacy Faculty at the Learning Resource Center (LRC) will play a pivotal role in implementing and advancing the FLN program in UP. As an integral part of the LRC team, the faculty will collaborate closely with the Director-LRC and LLF's central team to drive foundational literacy content development for continuous professional development and establish the LRC in Varanasi. This dynamic position involves spearheading content development, library management, and enhancing the Learning Resource Centre to foster collaboration, innovation, and professional development. Key responsibilities: Strategic Planning and Development: Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to identify foundational literacy specific Continuous Professional Development (CPD) needs aligned with organisational goals. Develop a detailed annual plan for foundational literacy focused CPD activities, catering to different stakeholders. Provide need-based support to the team, state, and central teams in content design, planning, and review. Coordinate and collaborate with internal teams (Central-level academic, State programs, and Continuous Professional Development teams) to identify training needs on foundational literacy and develop a comprehensive plan for the Learning Resource Centre (LRC), including specific goals and timelines. Content conceptualisation and designing: Develop and execute a content development plan for continuous professional development of targeted stakeholders. Design comprehensive foundational literacy focussed content for CPD programs catering to various stakeholders. Lead in designing literacy-related Teaching and Learning Materials (TLM) based on project-specific needs with central team consultation. Drive monthly CPD activities, including resource acquisition, session design, and development. Provide support to district-level LLF team members in literacy-focused curriculum and instructional methods aligned with the latest educational standards. Operational Setup and Management: Support the setup and organization of the LRC in Varanasi, including selecting suitable locations and procuring necessary equipment and literacy materials. Establish and maintain an organized library within the LRC to facilitate resource accessibility. Capacity Building: Develop literacy-related workshops, modules, and materials for the professional development of stakeholders. Conduct workshops, webinars, sessions, and courses on literacy, ensuring effective learning outcomes. Provide support and guidance to team members in foundational literacy, fostering a culture of continuous learning and development. Stakeholder Collaboration: Coordinate with LLF teams at all levels and engage with relevant stakeholders, including LLF staff, government officials, and other key partners, to understand their training needs and ensure alignment with project objectives. Conduct regular consultations to assess the effectiveness of the Training & Development Centre's programs and make improvements as necessary. Program Design and Implementation: Lead the design of literacy-centred training and capacity-building programs for LLF staff and government stakeholders. Develop and maintain a detailed annual training calendar focussing on foundational literacy. Coordinate and facilitate the delivery of induction and other training programs. Design and organise exposure visits, workshops, and courses on foundational literacy. Coordinate and invite experts from the foundational literacy field to contribute to various events. Evaluation and Reporting: Establish mechanisms to monitor and evaluate the impact and effectiveness of LRC activities. Conduct monthly reviews of the annual plan and progress, documenting key processes and program progress. Generate monthly/quarterly/annual reports on program activities, sharing them with the LRC director. Monitor and track all LRC-based activities as per the approved annual plan. Provide strategic recommendations for future enhancements of the literacy content. Field Visits Visit demo schools, observe classroom practices to evaluate the effectiveness of materials developed for students and teachers. Participate in teacher training sessions to assess the effectiveness of the training/modules and recommend further improvements. Participate in demo district review meetings to understand projects and plan support accordingly. Continuous Improvement and Innovation: Continuously review and improve the literacy content based on feedback and emerging trends in education and professional development. Stay abreast of best practices and innovative approaches in foundational literacy to ensure the LRC remains a leading resource in the field. Qualifications: Master's/equivalent degree in Education, or a related field. 5-7 years experience of working in education projects that involve training, material development, and capacity building in foundational literacy. Strong analytical skills will enable you to assess complex literacy challenges and develop data-driven solutions. Excellent communication and training abilities are necessary to effectively convey your knowledge to educators and stakeholders. More specialised computer skills including competency in the use of the internet and the use of Microsoft office (word, excel and PowerPoint), Hindi typing skill is essential. Has a good team spirit and positive attitude. Enjoys a varied pace of working and copes well under pressure. Experience of work in early grades /primary education projects is desirable. Deep knowledge and understanding of FLN and skills like training & facilitation, problem solving and resilience. High proficiency in Reading, Writing and Speaking of Hindi Compensation: The remuneration will be disclosed to interested candidates after the first round of informational calls.
