Liquid Trees is dedicated to harnessing the power of Diatoms as a natural solution for capturing atmospheric carbon. We focus on removing pollutants from rivers using native microalgae and Diatoms, which sequester CO2 through photosynthesis. Our efforts are concentrated on two primary domains:Carbon Capture: Utilizing diatoms as a natural solution for capturing atmospheric carbon.
Water bioremediation: Employing native diatoms to remove pollutants from water bodiesThis lab-based internship position will last 3 months and will be converted into permanent employment for the best-performing Interns.
The role is designed for Interns to gain experience in different lab-based analyses (dry lab and wet lab) and to learn about isolation, cultivation and scale-up of Diatoms in lab conditions.Responsibilities:-Assist in organizing experimental data and creating standardized frameworks for experimental reports.-Establish a library for microscopy pictures and ensure proper online folder organization in OneDrive.-Conduct biological analyses in the lab, including biomass dry cell weight determination, spectrophotometric analysis, cell counting, and water chemical analysis.-Collaborate with the team to develop methods for quantifying diatom biomassRequirements:-You have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Marine Biology, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Environmental Science or a similar field.-You have theoretical and (ideally) practical experience with microalgae during your studies.- You have experience with biomass dry cell weight determination, spectrophotometric analysis, cell counting, and water chemical analysis (plus)-Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel) and familiarity with OneDrive and OneNote.-Experience with statistical analysis software (R-studio, Python) (preferred)-You possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail.-You are highly motivated, with a strong work ethic and a proactive approach to tasks.Additional Information:-This is a hands-on internship opportunity where the candidate will gain valuable experience in scientific research and laboratory techniques.-You will be mentored by our Senior Scientist from Barcelona, Spain-Successful performance during the internship may lead to potential employment opportunities.
