Visit to learn more!Role SummaryDesign, develop and test C-based software within the Traction Motor Controller (TMC) cards, which provide the core traction and auxiliary functions for locomotives and off-highway mining trucks. The Lead Engineer / Technologist demonstrates leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for an area or business segment. In this role you will utilize your experience or expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and effect short-term and some long-term business goals.Essential Functions/ResponsibilitiesDevelop application layer software in C for use in the Xilinx Zynq FPGA, Motorola Power PC and other legacy processor devices specific to inverter control requirements on locomotives and off-highway vehicles (OHV).Design, Refine and Maintain proper inverter control for various chopper, blower, induction-motor, battery charging and dual mode applications. Guide junior engineers on these developmentsLead, guide and define the application requirements, architecture, specification and/or design and validation of inverter drive systems and auxiliary control architectures.Develop ownership for next generation control topologies and implementation focused around Zynq FPGAs and embedded processors.Lead integration of components with controllers onto locomotive and off-highway mining truck systems.Lead the investigation, root-cause identification, and resolution of electric drives SW reliability issues.Lead the evaluation and conceptualization of new electric drives control technology and applications.Lead and Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting the assigned project.Document technical data generated by the assigned project consistent with engineering policies and procedures.Participate on teams assigned to address organizational initiatives and generic issues.Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures.Good knowledge of electric machines (AC & DC motors, alternators, transformers) and power electronics.Ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization and external customersAbility to mentor and coach less experienced peersBasic QualificationsBachelor of Science in Electrical/Power Electronic Engineering, Physics or Related DisciplineAt least 6 to 8 years of experience working with drives and converter, Inverters, active front end rectifier, dc-dc converters using C Programing language for controls.Firm understanding of C, C++, Perforce, MATLAB and Simulink with ability to troubleshoot and identify coding structures to mitigate latency, performance, and maintainability amongst other software engineers on the team.Experience with the design of new processors, best practices and utilizing model-based strategies.Ability and willingness to work "hands-on" in test labs and on locomotives or off-highway trucks with high HP (1000 KVA), medium voltage (2 KV) and high current (10 KA) systems.Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools and systems.Solid oral and written communication skillsStrong interpersonal and leadership skillsDesired QualificationsMSEE/M.
